I would love to speak to Pat Derby. She is the founder of PAWS (Performing Animals Welfare Society). She has three sanctuaries, where these wonderful animals who have given so much of themselves for our entertarinment, have been through so much suffering at our expense - for our entertainment, can go to live out their lives in peace and know that they never have to perform again. They are fed, loved and cared for like they never have before. She is truly my hero and I would love to talk to her about how I can go about opening or helping to run a sanctuary like hers, as we need more. There are so many animals that need help - people who thought they could have these wonderful creatures as pets, but didn't know or didn't care to learn how to care for them properly are now wanting to rid of these pets and some of the things these animals go through is awful. I would love to talk to Pat, learn from Pat, and maybe I could open a sancturary near my home. I have almost completed my vet tech/animal sciences program, which I think may help with this goal. Pat Derby is my hero and I would love to talk to her, perhaps meet her one day and her partner Ed Stewart. Thank You, Lissa Lane.
